How to save $$$ on backing fabric! Plus new sophisticated fairies and sewing machine fabric … from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

We have the most adorable new modern fabrics to share with you this week.

First up is The Fae from Dear Stella. Design Rae Ritchie is so talented, we’ve had her collections before and you all have always loved them. She is inspired by images of the night, so there are lots of pretty moths, mushrooms and of course, sophisticated fairies that work for adults and kids.

Also from Dear Stella, we have Ready Thready Sew, a small line with some beautiful coordinates of sewing machines and notions. The soft color and modern designs are super cute, and I ...

15 Things I Didn’t Know When I Started Quilting from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

When I started quilting in 2007, YouTube existed, but not in the capacity it does today. So I taught myself to quilt with a beginner quilting book, grocery store magazines and Love of Quilting on PBS.

All those are great, but not a great substitute for in-person learning or in-depth beginner quilting video courses like the one we created to cover all the basics that you just don’t know when you get started.

So I made A LOT of mistakes … like sewing a perfect 3/8 inch seam for a year-and-a-half because I didn’t know the standard presser ...

NEW Shell Rummel fabric and quilt kit! This one’s GORGEOUS … from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

It’s no secret that I love everything Shell Rummel creates.

We have collaborated many times and I’ve made a quilt out of every one of her collections except one that came out early in the pandemic when I trying to figure out how to homeschool a kindergartener, care for a newborn and run a business.

My life hasn’t slowed down yet, but that collection is waiting for me when it does.

Shell’s latest line with FreeSpirit Natural Affinity is absolutely gorgeous, filled with beautiful serene scenes from the seashore. The colors are calming and an absolute ...

Loopy Meander & Daisy Free Motion Quilting Combo – Quilting Blooming Star from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

I’m going to be totally honest, this isn’t my favorite quilting ever. But I think it’s important to show you when my sewing projects don’t go as planned so you know you’re not alone when it happens to you too.

I wanted to do a swirl design in each and every diamond to help echo the design in the quilting. I’ve used similar approaches in other diamond quilts and the results are always stunning.

But my entire family has COVID, and I had one day when we cleared out Quilt Addicts Anonymous so I ...

Straight line quilting on the longarm + Why I HATE channel locks! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Today I’m showing you how I used straight line quilting on the longarm to quilt Subway our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt design.

I also tell you why I will use a ruler 100% of the time over channel locks in order to get perfectly spaced straight lines when quilting on my longarm.

If you don’t have a longarm, don’t worry. You can absolutely quilt straight lines on your home sewing machine using a walking foot. I think it was the perfect choice for this quilt because it is utilitarian, but also chic and modern, just like ...

Changing Density with Wavy Lines – Intro to Free Motion Quilting from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Welcome to our Intro Free Motion Quilting series! We are so excited about this course so we can help give you the confidence to finish your quilts yourself on your home sewing machine or longarm.

In our previous stitches I showed you how changing scale can change the look of your quilting design. With wavy lines, you change the density of the lines to change the look.

In other words, you can keep them far apart for a loose look with a lot of drape, or you can quilt close together for a more dense appearance and a stiffer quilt ...

Quilting wavy lines and outlining with rulerwork – Ultraviolet from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Sometimes you’ve got to get a quilt done FAST, and that was the case with Ultraviolet our latest Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt. I lost half a day to a surprise root canal and had to scrap my original plans for a super custom finish.

But I was able to create some fabulous texture both in the diamond blocks and the background pieces by creating some radiating wavy lines.

In today’s vide I show you how I outline the block using rulerwork, use piecing to create evenly spaced wavy lines and travel to the next block when your quilt ...

Strip-pieced Diamond Quilt with NO Y-seams from Fat Quarters – Ultraviolet from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

I know what you’re thinking … that’s a lot of little diamonds. But guess, what, we’re strip piecing this baby and you don’t have to cut a single tiny diamond!

For Ultraviolet, this month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie pattern inspired by this month’s Alison Glass Art Theory bundle, we are using offset strip piecing to create 60-degree pieced diamonds.

By placing the fabrics strategically from light to dark we are able to create a really cool effect when all the diamond blocks are assembled with NO Y-seams!

In this month’s tutorial I not only show ...

Straight Line Quilting on the Longarm Using Rulers! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

We promised you a beginner level straight line quilting on the longarm tutorial and here it is!

In today’s video I show you how I used rulers to create straight lines that are exactly one-inch apart and perfectly straight every time.

I know some of you may be asking why I don’t just use channel locks and there’s three reasons …

First, your leaders have to be rolled perfect straight. Mine aren’t, never have been probably never will.

Second, you have to have loaded your quilt on perfectly straight, also a high chance for human error.

Last ...

Charm Pack Pattern perfect for Kaffe! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Hugs & Kisses was one of the first patterns I created for our Stashin’ with Stephanie subscription club where members get a fat quarter bundle and pattern monthly.

But Hugs & Kisses also works with 5-inch charm packs! So we made it up using Kaffe Prism charm packs in our collaboration with FreeSpirit.

I redid our tutorial using the new fabrics and the pre-cuts really just pop against the shot cotton background that is a mix of dark purple and black threads.

Hugs & Kisses is now available in my best selling book Fat Quarter Workshop. You can grab a signed copy here ...

We just got more Kaffe Fassett Prism kits back in stock! I was so excited to work with Free Spirit to bring Kaffe’s Prism pre-cut collection to life using our patterns.

The last time we had these in stock the quilts were just digital images, but my team has been hard at work making real quilts so you can see the quilts and fabrics in all their glory. And let me tell you, they’re fabulous!

Strip Pieced Fat Quarter Quilt Pattern Fly Away from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie pattern is my favorite kind of pattern … one that looks complicated, but is pretty simple and fast once you break it down.

This month we are using offset strip piecing to create vertical strip pieced rows that look like they are forming a “V”. The result looks a little like a feather or books being opened, both of which work with the collection theme Bookish by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics.

I was an English major in college, and am constantly reading stories to my girls and listening to adult books on Audible ...

Maple Leaf Log Cabin – Fat Quarter Friendly Fall Quilt Pattern and Tutorial from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Maple Leaf Log Cabin is one of the first quilts I designed and published the pattern to. It was before I discovered modern quilting, so it is very traditional, but perfect for fall.

But we just gave the quilt an update using modern fabrics and it looks fantastic. I just love how it turned out in Summer’s End from FIGO, which just goes to show you that fabric choice can change the entire look of a quilt, bringing it from very traditional to modern.

The quilt combines the maple leaf and log cabin blocks, then sets it in a ...

Flower Patch – Beginner Friendly Half Square Triangle (HST) quilt that shows off colors! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

We are working with one of my favorite fabric designers for this month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt. Pippa Shaw with FIGO Fabrics just came out with Grow, which is packed with bold colors and, you guessed it, motifs that remind you of working in the garden.

This is our third time featuring Pippa Shaw in Stashin’ with Stephanie and her fabrics are always a hit with you all as well. Her use of color is fantastic and she does a great job of combining the hero prints with some fabulous coordinates that help the main prints stand out.

The perfect intro to 60-degree triangles! Congruence from Fat Quarter Workshop from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Today we’re bringing you a replay of one of my favorite patterns, Congruence, in my best-selling book Fat Quarter Workshop.

We’ve got brand new kits in my fabric collection, Nocturne with QT Fabrics, inspired by one of you! We saw one of our customers upload their take on Congruence with Nocturne, fell in love and decided we needed one too!

Congruence is a no-neutral quilt where you split the fabrics into equal colorways to create equilateral triangles. Then the 60-degree triangles are sewn together in horizontal rows, making it about as easy as you can get with NO ...

Rulerwork & Stitch-in-the-Ditch with pressed open seams – Triangle Master Class from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

The Quilt Police are going to have a problem with this video … I show you how I stitch-in-the-ditch with my seams pressed open. GASP!

I think once upon a time when quilting fabric, thread, sewing machines and batting weren’t as good as they were today, this may have cause some issues. So we had this piece of knowledge passed down that you can’t press your seams open and if you do, sitching-in-the-ditch is out for quilting options.

But as long as you are using quilt shop quality cotton, high quality thread, batting, and a modern sewing machine, not ...
